Yayasan MENDAKI

Yayasan MENDAKI (Council for the Development of Singapore Malay/Muslim Community) is a pioneer Self-Help Group formed in 1982 dedicated to empower the community through excellence in education, in the context of a multi-racial and multi-religious Singapore.



MENDAKI's programmes largely target the bottom 30 per cent of the Malay/Muslim population and are therefore highly subsidised. They are mostly preventive and developmental programmes to provide early assistance to the beneficiaries so that they will be school ready, able to perform in school and ultimately be future ready. The programmes are designed to supplement or complement national initiatives.



MENDAKI works extensively with partners that share and support its vision and mission. They consist of government agencies, schools, mosques, Malay/Muslim organisations, employers, community centres and MAECs, family and student service centres and many more.

 

Anugerah Belia Cemerlang MENDAKI / MENDAKI Youth Promise Award (Overseas and Local)

Introduction
Anugerah Belia Cemerlang MENDAKI aims to inspire the community towards embracing lifelong learning and support youths in their quest in attaining various peaks of excellence. This award was formerly known as the Goh Chok Tong Youth Promise Award (GCTYPA).

Objectives
  • To provide inspiration to the community by identifying and recognising Malay/Muslim youths who can be role models in the community.
  • To help Malay/Muslim youths with potential in diverse fields beyond traditional academic areas to further develop themselves and realise their potential.
  • To support adult learners to complete their post-secondary education and acquisition of new skills.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Nominees must be Malay/Muslim Singapore citizens between 18 and 35 years of age.
  • Nominees must be enrolled in a course of study beyond traditional academic areas, such as in the domains of culinary, sports, music, design and creative industries; performing and visual arts
  • The Award will also consider nominations of students who display multi-disciplinarity in their fields of study, combining the abovementioned fields with ICT, an emerging field
  • Nominees must be persons with high integrity and moral character
  • Nominees must be accepted full-time into institutions either locally or overseas to pursue the approved course of study, apprenticeship and skills or talents development opportunities in the field of interest

Value of Awards
The value of the awards are:
  • One overseas scholarship award worth up to $50,000
  • Three local scholarship awards worth up to $10,000 each

Award recipients will be required to provide skills-based contributions to the community via MENDAKI.

  • Candidature for the award is by nomination only.
  • All nominations must include testimonials of past achievements and supporting documents.
  • Please upload the following documents (with the proper naming convention):

    • Latest Academic Transcript
    • Institution_Acceptance_Letter or Institution_Offer_Letter
    • Nomination_Letter
    • Others (i.e. Testimonials and other supporting documents)
  • Third party recommendations to vouch for applicant’s character and integrity must also be provided.
