Yayasan MENDAKI

Yayasan MENDAKI (Council for the Development of Singapore Malay/Muslim Community) is a pioneer Self-Help Group formed in 1982 dedicated to empower the community through excellence in education, in the context of a multi-racial and multi-religious Singapore.



MENDAKI's programmes largely target the bottom 30 per cent of the Malay/Muslim population and are therefore highly subsidised. They are mostly preventive and developmental programmes to provide early assistance to the beneficiaries so that they will be school ready, able to perform in school and ultimately be future ready. The programmes are designed to supplement or complement national initiatives.



MENDAKI works extensively with partners that share and support its vision and mission. They consist of government agencies, schools, mosques, Malay/Muslim organisations, employers, community centres and MAECs, family and student service centres and many more.

 

The Ridzwan Dzafir Community Awards (2018)

Introduction

The Ridzwan Dzafir Community Awards (RDCA) is incepted in honour of the late Mr Ridzwan Dzafir, a man admired and respected for his relentless service leadership to Singapore as a distinguished Diplomat and an outstanding community leader.

Objective
To help promising career professionals in the public and social service sector who are pursuing post-graduate studies in relevant sectors.

Candidature for the award is by nomination only. Individuals or organizations may nominate candidates.

All nominations must include testimonials of past achievements and supporting documents. Third party recommendations to vouch for applicant’s character and integrity must also be provided.

Field of Study
Nominees would pursue any public and/or social services discipline in which Malay/Muslim community needs to build capacity and leadership.

Priority will be given to nominees pursuing:
  • Organisational/Public Policy & Governance
  • Community Building, Culture & Citizenry
  • Trade & Enterprise

Eligibility Criteria
  • Malay/Muslim Singapore citizens between 25 and 40 years of age.
  • Display strong ethos of public service and possess an unwavering dedication to improve lives of Singaporeans.
  • Demonstrated a soundness of character, high integrity, moral character and the potential to lead (testimonials and portfolios)
  • A considerable amount of work experience (3 to 5 years) and qualify for consideration into higher appointments in the public or social service sector
  • Nominations must provide referees and attach third party testimonials.
  • Nominees pursuing their postgraduate studies with direct relevance to the works of the Community Leaders’ Forum will be given priority

Value of Award
RDCA (Distinction)
One Doctoral Degree award or Two Masters Degree awards to be given out annually worth up to $100,000.

RDCA (Merit)
Two Community Fellowship awards to be given out annually worth up to $50,000.

Application period is from 1 May to 30 June 2018.
