Geospatial is used to describe things and phenomenon that are associated with location.
As a geospatial professional, you will work with geospatial data, which is data that identifies the geographic location of features and boundaries on Earth. Through visualisation and analysis, you will help to make sense of complex issues and phenomenon.
You will make use of geospatial information science and technology and visualisation tools to integrate different types of information from a variety of sources. You will help stakeholders see the different perspectives of an issue and see patterns and relationships more easily.
You will learn and use advanced geospatial analytics and modelling techniques to uncover new insights on issues. This could involve using cluster analysis to detect hotspots, modelling different scenarios influencing flow of transport, using location-allocation modelling to identify suitable sites for public services, and more.
As the level of urban intensity increases and amount of geospatial information grows, geospatial professionals are vital to helping Singapore make sense of our complex environment. As a geospatial professional in the public sector, you will have the opportunity to provide a spatial perspective for a variety of issues and influence decisions on government policies and delivery of public services.
There is demand for skilled geospatial professionals in many areas to help better understand the spatial component. Areas include health, environment, social assistance, community engagement, education, transport, urban planning, water, energy, security, and more. You can expect to manage projects and apply your knowledge across different domains.
The geospatial industry and technology is developing rapidly, and you will be at the cutting edge of technological advances in the collection, visualisation and analysis of data. You will be growing continually and grappling with issues that have no precedents, some of which do not even exist yet.
SLA has partnered with 8 other public agencies (BCA, GovTech, JTC, LTA, NEA, NParks, PUB and URA) to offer specialised geospatial and geospatial-related scholarships at the undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Check out this opportunity as we aspire to ignite your passion and fulfill your dream in a geospatial career.
