Getting to know the Nursing Profession
Staff Nurse
Staff Nurses provide care for the sick, injured and disabled patients through medical and nursing treatments; observing, assessing and recording patients’ condition and progress. They also provide healthcare education to patients and their families.
Depending on your aspiration, you may choose to pursue your career in the management, education or clinical tracks.
Nurse Manager
Nurse Managers manage personal and professional development of their staff and create conducive environment by providing leadership, direction and guidance.
Nurse Educator
Nurse Educators combine their clinical expertise and teaching capabilities to groom current and future nurses. Their roles include design and implementation of curricula, courses and study programme for further development and improvement.
Nurse Clinician
Nurse Clinicians are equipped with knowledge and skills in a clinical specialty such as Critical Care, Oncology, Continence Management and Diabetes Education etc. They provide direct care to patients and perform some specialised procedures in their area of practice.
Advanced Practice Nurses (APN)
Staff Nurses in the Clinical track can go on to become APN by undertaking a Masters Degree in Nursing. APNs practise in collaboration and partnership with medical practitioners and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat acute and/or chronic illnesses.
