About Us - Vision and Mission

Vision

Creative People, Gracious Community, Connected Singapore

a Creative People

At MICA, we are committed to nurturing and investing in creativity in order to distinguish ourselves in the global crowd. To do this, we have established a new HQ Division, Creative Industries Singapore. In addition, the new DesignSingapore Council seeks to encourage the excellence of local designers and develop Singapore as an international centre for design awards and events.

a Gracious Community
Being a Ministry that engages the hearts and minds of the people, MICA has undertaken the challenge of nurturing a gracious society, making us a Ministry with one of the broadest goals.

A gracious and cultured community is characterised by civic-mindedness, kindness and a vibrant artistic realm. With the help of agencies like the NAC, NHB and NLB, and the Singapore Kindness Movement, MICA will develop and convey relevant ideas and values that a gracious community should espouse. This will lead to a balanced and harmonious society.

a Connected Singapore
At MICA, we look at connectivity in all its aspects. It means the development of Singapore as an infocomm hub, and the intelligent use of ICT to sharpen Singapore's competitiveness in all key economic sectors, to link citizens and communities with each other and with the Government, and to improve the quality of life.

It also means emotional connectivity and creating a sense of national identity in our society. The Government's ability to rally public support for its policies and programmes depends upon its public communications efforts. In addition, policy formulation and implementation requires us to consult and engage the public, especially with the increasing demand for openness and accountability.

A Connected Singapore must accommodate the diversity of views in society. However, we must balance these different interests while safeguarding our national interests and our social norms and values.

Finally, MICA needs to ensure that Singapore is well-connected to the global economy so as to tap the opportunities that a globalised world offers. Beginning from home ground, we need to first communicate and reaffirm our people's belief that "Singapore is Opportunity" before moving on to enhance the image that the world has of us.

Mission
To Develop Singapore as a Global City for Information, Communications and the Arts, so as to Build a Creative Economy, Gracious Community and Connected Society with a Singaporean Identity rooted in our Multicultural Heritage.

MICA's mission has two fundamental thrusts:
1. Propelling the Creative Economy

Develop and promote our creative industries (arts and culture, design, media) and infocomm technology sector to create new economic value and jobs.

2. Fostering a Connected Society

Forge a strong sense of community, national identity, rootedness and inclusion among Singaporeans by enriching our arts and cultural resources, ensuring quality media content, and empowering individuals through infocomm literacy and access for all.

Foster better understanding between the Government, Singaporeans, and international stakeholders through effective public communications.
