Larissa Cheong, Stanford University Without the LTA scholarship, I would not have had the opportunity to spend four glorious years pursuing my undergraduate studies in the US. I come from a lower middle-income family and my parents would not have had the financial wherewithal to pay for my tuition fees abroad. It was a tremendous privilege to have been awarded one of the very few LTA overseas scholarships to be given out during my year.
In my very short 2 years here, wonderful people have helped me along, clarified my doubts, and motivated me to think deeply and creatively about solving the many myriad challenges in our land transport system today. Beyond the formal job responsibilities, I certainly believe that it is the sincerity and generosity of spirit of the people here that truly makes LTA a great place to work in.

The LTA Scholarship is certainly not something many other scholarships can boast of. I’m deeply intrigued by the many disciplines that LTA is involved in. From regulatory and policy work, to commissioning mega scale engineering projects like the Circle Line, to being involved in the development of cutting-edge technology like the second generation ERP. Whatever your interest is, there’s always something for you.
My job with the LTA Circle Line project team is challenging indeed. We live by the mantra that it’s just not good enough to resolve problems; we must prevent the problems from happening in the first place! It is exciting to know that what you are doing now will ultimately impact how Singaporeans will travel in the future! |

Brandon Li, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor A good undergraduate overseas scholarship is not just an all expenses paid opportunity to study in a foreign country; it is a life changing and horizon broadening experience. That was what the LTA scholarship offered me. I was immensely blessed to be studying in a world class institution without having to worry about daily expenses and tuition fees. Another defining moment of my education came when LTA readily agreed to my proposition to pursue a one-year study exchange programme in Paris, with continued financial arrangements.
I seized on many opportunities to enrich my life and experienced totally different cultures through my backpacking trips spanning North and South America, Europe and North Africa. Truly, the LTA scholarship was one of the most wonderful and thrilling periods of my life. |
